About me
I'm Emily and I'm an artist and art educator living in Stockport; I came to Manchester in 1999 to study Textiles, fell in love with the city and have lived here ever since. I am lucky enough to have a small but perfectly formed studio in my house, and a garden backing onto a brook overlooked by beautiful trees and full of birds, which frequently appear in my work. I love being outside exploring my surroundings, both locally and further afield, and find it a source of endless inspiration.
My work is created in mixed media, primarily using collage; I draw with papers by tearing, layering, building texture and developing the colours as I go, adding further detail with pencils, pastels and paint. I search charity shops for books, maps, dressmaker’s patterns and other ephemera, allowing the visual elements within these to construct and inform the final piece.
